David Warner says goodbye to international cricket

David Warner, a stalwart of Australian cricket for over a decade, bid farewell to his illustrious international career after Australia’s exit from the T20 World Cup.

The 37-year-old opener’s final match, a disappointing loss to India in St Lucia, marked the end of his World Cup aspirations. His innings yielded just six runs as Australia fell short by 24 runs.

Earlier this year, Warner had announced his retirement from one-day internationals but had left the possibility open for a return in the 2025 Champions Trophy. However, his departure from the T20 format now solidifies his exit from international cricket.

Warner made his T20 international debut in January 2009, accumulating 3,277 runs in 110 innings at an average of 33.43. His one-day international career was equally impressive, amassing 6,932 runs at an average of 45.30 with 22 centuries in 159 innings. In Test cricket, Warner scored 8,786 runs at an average of 44.59, including 26 centuries, with his highest score being an unbeaten 335 against Pakistan in December 2019.

Reflecting on Warner’s retirement, Australian bowler Josh Hazlewood paid homage to his impact both on and off the field. Hazlewood acknowledged Warner’s significant presence within the team and noted the adjustment period since his earlier retirements from Test and ODI cricket.
