Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has decided to stop using green meters commonly found in solar systems, as reported on Tuesday. Instead, they are requiring consumers to switch to Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters. Sarwar Mughal, Director of Customer Services, issued a notification to enforce this change.

Now, LESCO will issue a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for purchasing AMI meters for solar connections. Consumers must then buy these meters from the market based on the NOC. However, switching to AMI meters will add an extra financial cost of Rs20,000 for consumers.

The cost difference between AMI meters and green meters is twenty thousand rupees. Installing AMI meters is expected to address issues such as incorrect billing and electricity theft.
