Pakistani Universities Featured in Times Higher Education World Young University Rankings 2024
The Times Higher Education World’s Young University Rankings 2024 have spotlighted 76 Pakistani universities, with 33 institutions securing official ranks while the rest are acknowledged as’reporters’ on the list. Despite this significant representation, Pakistan’s absence from the top 100 underscores the challenges confronting its higher education sector.
The list encompasses universities aged 50 years or younger, with a total of 76 Pakistani universities making the cut. Notably, the 2024 ranking features 673 universities, up from 605 in the previous year, with an additional 499 institutions listed as’reporters’ for providing data but not meeting eligibility criteria for ranking.
Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, retains its top position for the second consecutive year. Hong Kong maintains a strong presence in the top 10, although individual university performances vary. While the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology has slipped to third place, the City University of Hong Kong has ascended to fourth place.
On a global scale, France’s top institutions show improvement, with Paris Sciences et Lettres-PSL Research University Paris securing the second spot. Turkey leads with the highest number of ranked institutions (58), followed by India (55) and Iran (46). The rankings also highlight an increase in the number of featured territories, rising to 79, with debut appearances from Ghana and Peru.
