PUBG MOBILE Launches ‘Play for Green’ to Promote Climate Action
PUBG MOBILE, one of the world’s most popular mobile games, has launched a new campaign called ‘Play for Green’. This initiative is part of the Green Game Jam, organized by Playing For The Planet and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The campaign aims to raise awareness about climate change and encourage players to support real-world environmental projects.
Key Features of the ‘Play for Green’ Campaign
- New Game Content:
- The Ruins of Erangel: A new map series called ‘The Ruins of Erangel’ has been added to the game. This map imagines how the iconic Erangel area might look 100 years from now if climate change continues unchecked. It includes features like sandstorms and damaged landscapes to reflect the potential effects of climate change.
- Map Challenges: In the ‘Sandstorm’ challenge, players must survive a storm by managing their healing carefully. Another map, ‘Exploration,’ offers a story-driven experience that educates players about climate change through various checkpoints and narrative elements.
- Run for Green Event:
- Dates: The event runs from September 11th to September 24th.
- How It Works: Players’ running distances in the game will contribute to protecting real-world land across Indonesia, Pakistan, and Brazil. Each sprint in the game will help reach goals to support conservation projects.
- Projects Supported:
- Brazil: The Cerrado Biome Project aims to preserve a biodiverse savannah.
- Indonesia: The Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve Project helps protect orangutans and involves local communities in sustainable practices.
- Pakistan: The Delta Blue Carbon – 1 Project focuses on regenerating mangroves to combat climate change and support biodiversity.
- Rewards: Players can unlock special in-game items and experiences, such as the ‘Preservation Garden’ featuring endangered plants.
- World Of Wonder Green Creative Contest:
- Objective: Players are invited to create maps using new climate-themed items in the game’s World Of Wonder mode. The best maps will be highlighted, and winners will share a $12,500 prize pool.
- Submission Dates: Entries can be submitted from September 12th to September 25th.
- Global Action Challenge:
- Dates: This competition runs from September 17th to September 30th.
- Participation: Players can share photos or stories of their local environmental actions on PUBG MOBILE’s social media channels using the hashtag #PUBGMPlayforGreen. Winners will receive exclusive in-game items.
