Let’s Get to Work! Barack Obama Steps in for Kamala Harris at DNC
Barack Obama Rallies Support for Kamala Harris at DNC
Former U.S. President Barack Obama took the stage at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) to rally support for Kamala Harris in her critical bid to become the next president in the upcoming November election.
Obama appeared before a roaring crowd in Chicago, following speeches from his wife Michelle, Harris’s husband Doug Emhoff, and other party veterans, as well as former Republicans disenchanted with Donald Trump.
In his powerful address, Obama, the first Black American ever elected to the White House, praised President Joe Biden as a “proud friend” and underscored the high stakes of the upcoming election. He urged voters to “fight for an America we can believe in” and emphasized the need for widespread voter turnout.
“This will be a tight race in a divided country, where too many Americans are still struggling,” Obama warned. He criticized Donald Trump’s leadership style, saying, “Trump sees power as a means to his own ends. We don’t need four more years of bluster, bumbling, and chaos. America is ready for a new chapter, a new story. We are ready for a President Kamala Harris.”
Obama’s speech, lasting over half an hour, demonstrated his commitment to Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, as they aim to make history in the November election by becoming the first female president and the first president of Black and South Asian descent.
Before Obama’s address, Michelle Obama received enthusiastic applause for her own endorsement of Harris and Walz. The former first lady spoke of hope and unity, urging the nation to overcome fear and division, and cautioned against attempts by Trump to distort Harris’s truth, reflecting on his past efforts to instill fear.
