The retail price of cement in Pakistan has risen by up to Rs. 120 per bag. JS Global reports that cement manufacturers have increased prices due to the impact of higher federal excise duty (FED).
Starting from July 1, 2024, the new prices range from Rs. 1,340 to Rs. 1,420 per bag after the recent hike, varying by region. In the budget for 2024-25, the federal government raised the FED on cement to Rs. 4 per kg from the previous Rs. 2 per kg.
Originally, the budget proposed an increase to Rs. 3 per kg, but Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb announced a higher rate of Rs. 4 per kg for the upcoming fiscal year.
