ISLAMABAD: Google for Startups has announced the launch of an ‘AI Academy’ in Pakistan, aimed at advancing artificial intelligence across the country and the Asia Pacific region. This initiative marks the first success of Google’s Chrome Book program, with more projects planned to follow.
The AI Academy is designed to foster cross-border partnerships under the Special Investment Facilitation Council, promoting the exchange of innovative ideas and resources to revolutionize AI development. This move is expected to position Pakistan as a key player in the global AI landscape within the Asia-Pacific region.
Earlier this week, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah revealed 1,000 Google scholarships for students at 10 public universities, emphasizing the importance of IT skills for securing employment in the digital age.
CM Murad highlighted the value of diverse IT skills and certifications, noting that they empower individuals to work from home and remain competitive. “It is crucial for our youth to develop skills in areas like e-marketing, AI, animation, and web design,” he said. These skills are essential for self-sufficiency and global competitiveness.
The Chief Minister was also briefed on the deployment of Google Chromebooks in educational institutions across Sindh. In collaboration with the Education Department, Tech Valley has introduced these Chromebooks and conducted training for teachers. Known for their lightweight design, long battery life, and ease of management, Chromebooks are expected to enhance the educational experience significantly.
