Federal agents in Australia arrested a passenger on Thursday after he caused a commotion at Melbourne Airport. The man opened an emergency exit door on a Jetstar flight, walked along the wing, and climbed down to the tarmac.

The incident happened with Jetstar flight JQ507, which had arrived in Melbourne from Sydney. Jetstar is a budget airline that is part of Qantas, Australia’s main airline.

Cam Beaman, an airport spokesperson, said the plane was parked when the man got off the aircraft.

Man opened emergency exit automatically deploying slide

Alana Grech, a Jetstar spokesperson, said the incident happened after the plane had landed and was parked at a gate. The passenger opened the emergency exit door, which caused the slide to deploy.

“The passenger went out through the emergency exit, walked along the wing, and then climbed down to the ground using the engine,” Grech explained.

The passenger who walked on the airplane wing was quickly stopped by airport staff and then arrested by Australian Federal Police (AFP), Beaman said.

“Melbourne Airport is pleased with how well the ground crew responded, ensuring there was no immediate danger to other passengers or airport staff,”

Officials have not shared the name or background of the passenger involved in the incident.

“We appreciate our passengers’ patience and understanding as our team worked with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to handle the situation,” officials said.
