The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with District Administration Peshawar and the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), has closed down the Daewoo Bus Terminal in Peshawar. This decision was made on Monday because Daewoo Express did not replace old buses operating in the southern districts of the province.

The authorities had previously instructed Daewoo Express to upgrade its aging fleet. Upon noticing that old buses were still in operation, officials issued a notice to Daewoo Express, demanding that they replace these buses. In a joint effort, officials blocked the entry gate of the terminal on G.T. Road with concrete barriers, effectively halting bus services.

Officials from the district administration stressed that Daewoo Bus Service’s management must procure new buses and strictly adhere to official regulations. Failure to comply will lead to further legal action against the company.

This isn’t the first time the Daewoo Bus Terminal in Peshawar has faced closure for similar reasons. In 2022, it was shut down due to multiple complaints about outdated buses, inadequate hygiene in washrooms, insufficient facilities in waiting areas, and inadequate air conditioning systems.

Although the terminal was reopened in 2022, this recent action shows that the issues have persisted.
