Government Tells Ministries Not to Sell Gifts Received Without Paying Taxes The government has issued a directive to all Ministries aimed at ensuring that duty-free goods received as gifts or donations from foreign governments are not diverted for sale. This directive, as outlined in the Finance Act 2024, emphasizes that these goods must be used exclusively for their designated purposes.

Under the Act, approval from the relevant Minister and approval from the Federal Board of Revenue are required before these goods can be utilized. Additionally, the Act grants sales tax exemption for goods imported as gifts or relief during natural disasters or emergencies.

Ministries are mandated to verify the legitimacy of these imports and submit an official undertaking guaranteeing that donated goods will not be sold, repurposed, or disposed of in any manner contrary to their original intended use.
