The CDWP has approved the construction of a Karakoram Highway project worth $2 billion. This highway will be 241 kilometers long.
The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has given the green light for a major infrastructure project that is important for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). This project focuses on improving and changing a 241-kilometer part of the famous Karakoram Highway, running from Thakot to Raikot Bridge.
This ambitious project is expected to cost around Rs 567.5 billion, which is approximately $2 billion. The funding for this project will come from a concessional loan from China.
In simple terms, the CDWP has approved a big project to upgrade a section of the Karakoram Highway. It will cost a lot of money, about $2 billion, and China will provide the funds through a loan.
The project aims to update and enhance connectivity along the Karakoram Highway (KKH) by several means. This involves building a new 103-kilometer road from Thakot to Dasu, creating a better route. Also, infrastructure near the Dasu Dam will be relocated for strategic reasons. Additionally, new road sections will be developed beyond Basha-Thor Nullah to improve transportation.
Apart from the KKH project, the CDWP has also approved the Golen Gol Hydropower project in Chitral, which will cost around Rs 42 billion. This project will generate electricity using water power. The funding for this hydroelectric project will come from a group of international financial organizations.
In simple words, the project aims to make the Karakoram Highway better by building a new road and moving infrastructure near Dasu Dam. They’ll also create new road sections beyond Basha-Thor Nullah. Another project, the Golen Gol Hydropower project, will generate electricity using water power in Chitral. Before Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s planned trip to Beijing on June 4th, these projects are expected to get approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec). If approved, they would mark important progress in Pakistan’s infrastructure and energy sectors.
