Xiaomi will launch the Mix Fold 4 and Mix Flip foldable phones this month, as revealed by Lei Jun, the founder and CEO of the company. He announced online that these phones will be the first products from Xiaomi’s new Smart Factory in Changping, Beijing.
The facility spans 81,000 square meters and has the capacity to produce 10 million flagship phones per year. Xiaomi invested CNY 2.4 billion (approximately $330 million) in this factory, detailing on Weibo the enhancements that make it unique.
The plant features what Jun describes as an intelligent manufacturing platform, capable of making independent decisions to optimize processes. Xiaomi explained that this includes diagnosing equipment issues and automating the purchase of raw materials and components.
With just 3.5 weeks left in the month, teasers for the new Mix Fold 4, which is reportedly going global, should begin appearing soon. It remains uncertain if the Mix Flip, Xiaomi’s first clamshell foldable, will also have a global release.
