WhatsApp is preparing to add a new feature that allows you to react to messages with a double tap. This feature has been available on Instagram Direct Messages for a while, and now WhatsApp will borrow it from Instagram, which is also owned by Meta.

Currently, this feature is being tested on Android devices and is available in the latest beta version of WhatsApp. To try it out, you need to join the beta program for WhatsApp on Android, which you can do through the Google Play Store. However, there might not always be slots available since they can fill up quickly.

With this new feature, you can quickly add a reaction to any message by double tapping it. This works not just for text messages but also for photos, videos, and GIFs. When you double tap a message, it will automatically react with a heart emoji, similar to Instagram. If you want to use a different emoji, you will still need to long press the message to open a menu where you can select your preferred reaction.

One thing to note is that you won’t be able to turn off this double tap reaction feature. This might be a problem for some users who accidentally react to old messages while scrolling through their chat history.

Since the feature is already in beta, it should become available to all users in the next few weeks or months.
