Kamala Harris Pushes for Continuous Live Mics in Upcoming Debate with Donald Trump
WASHINGTON:US Elections: Kamala Harris Advocates for Continuous Live Mics During Trump Debates Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for the US presidential election, has urged her Republican rival, Donald Trump, to participate in their upcoming debate with microphones fully active throughout the event.
The debate, scheduled for September 10 and hosted by ABC News, marks the first face-off between Harris and Trump since President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race following a disappointing performance at a June CNN debate.
Harris expressed her concerns on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Donald Trump is surrendering to his advisors who won’t allow him to debate with a live microphone. If his own team doesn’t have confidence in him, the American people definitely can’t.”
She continued, “We are running for President of the United States. Let’s debate transparently with the microphones on the whole time.”
Trump has previously stated his preference for having his microphone on during debates, criticizing the muting during his last debate against Biden.
Live microphones, often referred to as “hot mics,” can capture spontaneous remarks that were not intended for public release, while muted microphones can help avoid interruptions.
ABC News has not yet responded to inquiries about the debate format.
In addition to the presidential debate, Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz and Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance are set to debate on October 1 on CBS News.
