Chris Tetley, the Head of Events at the International Cricket Council ICC, and Claire Furlong, the General Manager of Marketing and Communications, resigned from their positions on Friday, as reported by Cricbuzz.

Both Tetley and Furlong played pivotal roles in organizing the Twenty20 World Cup held in the United States and the West Indies.

Sources within the ICC indicate that these resignations, which coincide with the conclusion of the World Cup and shortly before the ICC’s annual conference in Colombo, are connected to their conduct during the event. However, it has been revealed that the resignations were decided several months ago.

According to Cricbuzz’s report, “One particular source has claimed that both Tetley and Furlong decided to leave the world body at the end of the last commercial cycle itself but stayed on in view of the Twenty20 World Cup in the US. The source went on to add that the two quit quite some time back but will continue to be with the ICC for a few more months ‘to ensure smooth transition of charge in a crowded event cycle.’ They will also attend the Annual Conference in Colombo from July 19 to 22.”

“The World Cup in the US, particularly in New York, was a significant project for the ICC, and both officials were closely involved. Many ICC members were preparing to raise concerns about the New York games, which featured low-scoring affairs due to the ‘up and down’ nature of the drop-in pitches at the NY stadium, during the Colombo conference. A key ICC board member reportedly raised the issue through a letter to the members.”

“The number of boundaries, which are typically expected to be high in Twenty20 games, was notably low in the New York matches. However, the Indian team, who emerged as champions, did not comment on the pitch conditions, stating that the playing conditions were fair for all participating teams.”
