Toyota Reveals Future Plans for Lexus Vehicles
Toyota, the world’s top-selling car maker, is planning to build a new battery plant in Fukuoka, a region in southwestern Japan. This plant will produce batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and supply them to a factory that makes Lexus luxury cars.
Toyota wants to make the island of Kyushu, where Fukuoka is located, a key hub for its battery production and an important export center for Asia. This move is part of Toyota’s strategy to boost its electric vehicle battery production.
Although Toyota has confirmed that it is aware of this plan, the company has not officially announced it yet. The company’s spokesperson mentioned that Toyota is working on expanding its capacity to produce EV batteries.
The Lexus vehicles are currently manufactured at Toyota Motor Kyushu’s Miyata plant.
Toyota has announced that it plans to introduce new electric vehicles (EVs) with advanced batteries starting in 2026. These next-generation batteries will be made by Toyota’s special division called BEV Factory.
Toyota aims to sell 3.5 million EVs each year by 2030. Almost half of these EVs will come from the BEV Factory. In 2023, Toyota sold 104,000 EVs.
The exact cost and start date for the new battery plant in Fukuoka are still not decided. The Nikkei newspaper, which reported on this, did not disclose its source of information.
The battery plant will be run by Primearth EV Energy, another Toyota subsidiary. Primearth EV Energy focuses on making batteries for hybrid cars, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric vehicles.
