Tom Cruise Makes a Daring Descent from Stadium Roof in Thrilling Olympic Finale Hollywood icon Tom Cruise made a spectacular appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games closing ceremony on Sunday night, descending from the Stade de France roof on a wire. The crowd erupted with excitement as the Mission: Impossible star, clad in a leather jacket and gloves, gracefully lowered himself into the stadium, while H.E.R. performed an electric guitar set.
In a pre-recorded segment marking the transition to Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympics, Cruise was seen journeying through Paris and then traveling to the US. He arrived at the iconic Hollywood sign, where he unveiled the Olympic colors, symbolizing the official handover from Paris.
Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, described the Paris Games as “sensational” during his closing speech. He commended the athletes for their “simply amazing” performances and praised their ability to foster peace and unity amidst global conflicts. Bach expressed gratitude for the athletes’ inspiration and their role in envisioning a better world.
The ceremony also featured a memorable moment as Cruise took the Olympic flag from American gymnast Simone Biles before riding away on a motorbike. The pre-recorded clip of his journey to Los Angeles was accompanied by music from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who later performed their hit “Can’t Stop” live on a beach in LA. Other highlights included Billie Eilish and Snoop Dogg, who performed alongside Dr. Dre.
Known for performing his own stunts, Cruise’s daring descent was complemented by a cinematic segment designed by artistic director Thomas Jolly. The stadium watched in awe as dancers assembled the Olympic rings on stage, followed by an energetic performance from French band Phoenix.
Cruise’s high-profile role at the ceremony was widely anticipated, with rumors circulating even before he was seen in the stadium. Throughout the Games, the 62-year-old star was spotted supporting Team USA and enjoying the athletic performances.
The Paris 2024 Games concluded with the US topping the medals table, highlighted by a dramatic victory in the women’s basketball final.
