According to BBC, the incident occurred in Solingen, a city in western Germany, during a festival celebrating its 650th anniversary. Reports indicate that the attacker remains at large, prompting a massive manhunt and the deployment of police helicopters over the city.
Witnesses and local media outlets, including Bild, describe the attacker as having randomly targeted bystanders. Following the attack, city officials advised people to evacuate the Fronhof market area as police established security cordons.
Emergency services were quickly on the scene, and reports indicate that 40 tactical vehicles were deployed to aid in the search for the suspect. The Solinger Tageblatt newspaper reported that emergency personnel were working to save the lives of nine individuals.
Festival organizer Philipp Müller stated, “People are shocked, but they left the square peacefully.” Witness Lars Breitzke described the chaotic scene, noting, “When I saw a singer on stage with a strange expression, I realized something was wrong. Then, a person fell over just a meter away from me.”
German media sources suggest that the assailant deliberately targeted victims’ necks. Police spokesperson Alexander Kresta indicated, “We are currently assuming that it was the work of one individual.”
