On Saturday, a judicial magistrate denied the police’s request for additional physical custody of six suspects accused of mutilating a camel’s leg near Mund Jamrao in Sanghar district. Instead, the magistrate sent them to jail on judicial remand.

The suspects were brought before the judge after completing their initial four-day remand in police custody. The police requested an extension, but judicial magistrate Habibullah Siyal denied their request.

According to SSP Sanghar, two of the six suspects, Abdul Shakoor Shar and Abid Shar, confessed to their involvement in the crime during the investigation.

The Incident

In Sanghar district of Sindh, a landlord allegedly cut off a camel’s leg as punishment for entering his field to graze on fodder.

The incident took place in Mund Jamrao village, Sanghar district, on Friday.

Soomer Khan, the camel’s owner, described the incident alongside his camel at the Sanghar press club. “I have no disputes with anyone. I do not understand why this was done to my camel,” he said.

After a video of the camel with its leg chopped off went viral on social media, the Sanghar SSP took notice of the incident.

The police filed a First Information Report (FIR) on behalf of the state against unknown individuals under sections 429 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also took notice of the distressing incident where a landlord in Sanghar cut off a camel’s leg. The injured animal is set to receive an artificial leg.

Subsequently, the camel was transferred to Karachi for medical treatment.
