The president of PML-N said that Imran Khan played a part in bringing down the PML-N government in 2017 and causing problems for democracy.

Nawaz Sharif, the newly-elected president of PML-N, said on Tuesday that Pakistan could have developed more if his governments had not been removed from power multiple times.

Nawaz lost his position as prime minister in 2017 and as president of his party in 2018 due to the Panama Papers ruling. Since then, PML-N has focused on the slogan “mujhy kyun nikala” (Why was I removed?), referring to his dismissal as prime minister.

Today, during the PML-N’s general council meeting, Nawaz was declared the party president again after six years, without any opposition. He mentioned that Pakistan could have made more progress if his governments had not been repeatedly overthrown.

Nawaz Sharif, who leads the PML-N, spoke at the party’s meeting in Lahore. He talked about how Pakistan could have progressed more if his governments hadn’t been removed from power. He lost his position as Prime Minister in 2017 and leadership of his party in 2018 because of the Panama Papers issue. Since then, the PML-N has been asking, “Why was I removed?”

At the recent meeting, the party members chose Nawaz again as president after six years. Nobody else applied for the position, so he was chosen without any competition.

Nawaz said that Pakistan would have been stronger in Asia if his government’s progress wasn’t stopped. He criticized the habit of pulling each other down, saying it’s been happening since 1977 and has made the country weaker.

He admitted that mistakes were made but emphasized that Pakistan never begged from anyone. He said he wouldn’t have complained if he was removed for corruption.

Nawaz also talked about the Panama Papers case, saying the decision against him was wrong. He thanked his party members for their support and criticized those who took away the people’s choice.

He praised his brother Shehbaz for standing by him and refusing offers to create divisions within the family. He also praised his daughter, Mariam Nawaz, for her active role in the party.

Nawaz criticized Imran Khan, asking about the authenticity of the cases against him and if Imran was behind his ousting. He blamed Imran for destabilizing democracy.

Shehbaz, the Prime Minister and Nawaz’s brother, expressed trust in Nawaz’s leadership. He said under Nawaz’s guidance, Pakistan can overcome its problems and become better.

He criticized those who unfairly targeted Nawaz, mentioning the Panama Papers and ‘aqama’ issues. He said they are now working hard in Punjab and the rest of Pakistan under Nawaz’s leadership.

Shehbaz called out the judiciary, urging them to think about Pakistan’s development. He criticized some judges for supporting Imran Khan and assured that all conspiracies against Nawaz will fail.
