Tesla’s New Full Self-Driving Update: Steering Wheel Alert Removal
Tesla is preparing a big update for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, set to be released next week. CEO Elon Musk mentioned it will be impressive, but didn’t share many details. One major change involves removing the reminder for drivers to touch the steering wheel. Instead, Tesla will use a camera inside the car to check if the driver is paying attention.
Currently, Tesla’s system reminds drivers every minute to ensure they’re focused. However, some find this frequent reminder annoying. The new camera system already alerts drivers if they look away from the road for more than three seconds, which some also find frustrating.
Critics express concerns that the camera system might not work perfectly and could encourage drivers to misuse the system. Nevertheless, Tesla emphasizes that drivers must still be prepared to take control of the car at any moment.
This adjustment comes at a bold time for Tesla, especially since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating a Tesla recall related to alerts for Autopilot and Full Self-Driving. Tesla continues to emphasize that drivers must remain focused and keep their hands on the wheel when using these features.
