Shah Mehmood Qureshi transferred to Kot Lakhpat Jail, Lahore
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) vice chairman and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been moved from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore.
According to sources, the imprisoned PTI leader will appear before an anti-terrorism court at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore.
Sources mentioned that Shah Mehmood Qureshi faces charges related to riots on May 9 in Lahore. Police have questioned the former foreign minister while he is in jail.
Previously, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, a leader of PTI, was placed in judicial remand due to his alleged role in the May 9 riots.
The court denied the request to extend physical remand and instead placed the PTI leader under police custody for 14 days of judicial remand.
During his physical remand at Adiala Jail, Qureshi was questioned regarding the charges against him.
Earlier, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) acquitted former Prime Minister Imran Khan and PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the cipher case. Chief Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb delivered the verdict on appeals challenging their convictions in the cipher case.
In January this year, both PTI founder and vice-chairman were sentenced to 10 years in prison in the cipher case. However, they remain incarcerated due to Imran’s sentences in the Toshakhana and Iddat cases, while Qureshi faces new charges related to the May 9 incidents.
