Pakistan defeats England to secure spot in Legends World Championship semi finals
Pakistan defeated England by 79 runs in the 2024 Legends World Championship at Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham.
Batting first, Pakistan scored 196 runs for the loss of four wickets. Kamran Akmal and Sharjeel Khan started but were out early. Sohaib Maqsood and Shoaib Malik then had a strong partnership, with Maqsood scoring 64 runs and Malik 51 runs.
Captain Misbah-ul-Haq contributed 23 not out, and Abdul Razzaq added a quick 20 not out towards the end.
Chasing 197 runs, England lost captain Kevin Pietersen early. Ian Bell was run out by Yasir Arafat after scoring 11 runs.
This win marks Pakistan’s fourth consecutive victory in the tournament, having previously beaten Australia, West Indies, and India.
Meanwhile, Phil Mustard played a crucial role to keep England competitive.
Mustard scored 34 runs before getting out while trying to score quickly. Kevin O’Brien was bowled by Shoaib Malik after making 24 runs.
However, England struggled as Pakistan kept taking wickets regularly. They were all out for 117 runs.
Saeed Ajmal took three wickets, Abdul Razzaq claimed two, and Shoaib Malik, Sohail Khan, and Aamer Yamin each took one wicket.
With this victory, Pakistan has secured a spot in the semi-finals of the Legends World Championship.
