Pakistan and Tajikistan have affirmed their commitment to strengthen their close ties, which are based on a shared history, culture, geographical proximity, and common faith. This understanding was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe today.

In their discussions, the leaders covered a wide range of areas where they cooperate bilaterally. These include trade, economy, investment, connectivity, culture, education, science and technology, defense, humanitarian aid, exchanges between their parliaments, and interactions between their peoples.

They signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement, which marks a significant elevation of their relations to a long-term strategic partnership. This upgrade is expected to create new opportunities for expanding their cooperation in various fields.

Furthermore, to deepen and diversify their ties even more, both sides signed several Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements cover aviation, diplomacy, education, sports, people-to-people connections, industrial cooperation, and tourism.

During the meeting, the Pakistani Prime Minister also informed the Tajik President about the deteriorating human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He highlighted concerns over attempts by the Indian government to alter the demographic makeup of the region.

Both leaders expressed deep concern about the situation in Gaza, where Israeli actions have led to the deaths of thousands of innocent Palestinians, including women and children. They called on the international community to increase efforts to stop the violence and bring peace to the region.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan is visiting Tajikistan for two days at the invitation of Tajik President. This visit underscores the ongoing high-level exchanges between the two countries and signifies a significant step toward strengthening their long-standing and diverse relationship.

Upon arriving at Dushanbe International Airport, Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda warmly welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. As a gesture of respect and solidarity, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif laid a floral wreath at Tajikistan’s national monument, the Ismoili Somoni Statue.
