Oppo and Ericsson Agree to Cross-Licensing Deal for 5G Patents Oppo and Ericsson Forge Global 5G Patent Cross-Licensing Agreement

Oppo and Ericsson have announced a comprehensive global cooperation agreement focused on 5G patent cross-licensing. Under this multi-year deal, Oppo will pay royalties for utilizing 5G technology in its upcoming devices. Additionally, the companies will collaborate on device testing and joint marketing initiatives.

Feng Ying, Chief IP Officer at Oppo, highlighted that this partnership marks a significant stride towards establishing a robust long-term intellectual property portfolio. Oppo, based in Shenzhen, aims to resolve IP issues through amicable negotiations that respect the value of patents.

Ericsson expressed that the royalty-bearing license agreement will enable the company to continue investing in foundational communication technologies. This announcement follows the resolution of Oppo’s previous 5G patent dispute with Nokia several months ago.

The industry is currently witnessing a phase of renewing and expanding existing partnerships, as evidenced by Nokia’s recent extensions with Samsung, Honor, and Apple for incorporating next-generation cellular technologies into their devices.
