Julien Alfred of St Lucia emerged as the new queen of the track, winning gold in the women’s 100m final with a national record time of 10.72 seconds. She outpaced the USA’s Sha’Carri Richardson, who finished in second place. Team GB’s Daryl Neita finished fourth, and Dina Asher-Smith did not advance to the final.

Katie Ledecky Makes History

Katie Ledecky further cemented her legacy by winning her ninth Olympic gold medal in the 800m freestyle, matching the all-time record for women’s golds. However, Great Britain lost both their title and world record in the mixed 4x100m medley relay to the United States. Adam Peaty, who had been recovering from COVID-19, was not part of the relay team.
