Islamabad Moves Towards Banning Gasoline-Powered Motorcycle Purchases
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has enforced a ban on the purchase of petrol-powered motorcycles in Islamabad as part of efforts to combat pollution and enhance air quality.
The decision was made during a meeting held at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to review ongoing development projects in the city.
Key highlights of the meeting included discussions on the progress of various projects such as the refurbishment of the Federal Secretariat, enhancements in the Diplomatic Enclave, and the implementation of smart parking solutions. CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa provided a comprehensive update on these initiatives.
Minister Naqvi emphasized Islamabad’s transformation into a world-class city, highlighting initiatives to promote environmental sustainability, including the exclusive purchase of electric motorcycles and the introduction of eco-friendly electric buses for public transport.
Furthermore, plans were discussed to enhance emergency services to international standards by transferring responsibilities from the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) to the CDA. The establishment of a new Capital Water and Sanitation Agency (Capital WASA) is also underway.
Naqvi announced imminent construction commencement for the Serena Chowk underpass and F-9 Park Chowk flyover projects, addressing long-standing delays in the development of non-developed sectors of Islamabad.
Regarding infrastructure, progress was noted on the long-delayed Islamabad Model Jail project, with the first phase expected to be completed on schedule after 17 years.
The meeting concluded with Minister Naqvi commending the CDA team for achieving record tax collection and stressing the importance of enhancing institutional assets beyond mere plot and land sales.
