The Sindh government said no to starting summer vacations early. They said all public and private schools will close from June 1 as they planned.

The School Education and Literacy Department released a notice today, which Dawn.com has. It says all schools will end summer vacations on July 31, following a decision made on January 25. This happened after the Punjab government said all schools would start summer vacation early, from May 25, because it’s really hot. Karachi won’t be as hot as other places in Sindh, even though a heatwave is coming today. The temperature in nine cities is expected to be much higher than normal.

On Monday, Jacobabad had the highest temperature at 47 degrees Celsius, followed by Mohenjo Daro and Shaheed Benazirabad at 46.5°C, and Sakrand at 46°C. Karachi was the coolest in Sindh with 36.3°C and 55% humidity.

Intermediate exams in Sindh were postponed for a week due to the upcoming heatwave. They were supposed to start on May 22 but will now begin on May 27. Karachi’s Board of Secondary Education also delayed matriculation exams scheduled from May 21 to May 27. These exams will now resume on May 28 as planned.
