The match at Camping World Stadium was postponed from its original kick-off time because of adverse weather conditions. City’s previous U.S. tour game, a 4-3 loss to Celtic, was also delayed for the same reason.
When the game finally started, Erling Haaland had an early goal ruled out despite a close call from Oscar Bobb’s cross. Barcelona took the lead through Pau Victor, who scored under pressure from Kalvin Phillips after a deft flick from Marc Casadó.
City leveled the score with a goal from 19-year-old Nico O’Reilly, but Barcelona regained the lead just before half-time when Victor allowed the ball to run for Pablo Torre to score.
Both teams made substitutions at halftime, with Pep Guardiola replacing Haaland and Ederson. City equalized once more through Jack Grealish, who capitalized on a brilliant run from Mateo Kovacic starting from the edge of City’s penalty area.
In the ensuing penalty shootout, Barcelona triumphed 4-1, with Phillips among the City players missing from the spot.
Manchester City’s next match is against Chelsea in Ohio on Saturday, while Barcelona will face La Liga rivals Real Madrid in New Jersey.
