Facebook plans to use your personal information to teach its artificial intelligence, worries about keeping data safe have come up after Meta said it would use what users post, their photos, and other personal stuff to teach its AI tools on Facebook and Instagram.

Everyone on these apps is part of this unless they decide not to be. But choosing not to be means going through a bunch of steps, making privacy experts and advocates nervous.

Recently, lots of users on different Meta social media apps got a message. It said that starting June 26, the company will make its “AI at Meta experiences” bigger. These include Meta AI and AI creative tools. The message explained:

To make these experiences better for you, we’ll now use a legal reason called “legitimate interests” to use your info to make AI at Meta better.

But it also said users can say they don’t want their info used like this. And if they do, Meta will listen and won’t use their info this way in the future.

This means Meta is going to use your info to improve its AI stuff. But if you don’t like it, you can tell them, and they won’t do it with your info anymore.
