Elon Musk’s XAI Collaborates with Dell on Supercomputer Development
Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI is teaming up with Dell to develop a supercomputer aimed at enhancing its AI chatbot, Grok.
Elon Musk announced on social media platform X that Dell Technologies is manufacturing half of the racks for the supercomputer being built by xAI.
As reported by The Information in May, xAI plans to build this supercomputer to advance its AI chatbot, Grok.
Dell CEO Michael Dell also confirmed on platform X that Dell is collaborating with Nvidia to establish an “AI factory” to support the next generation of xAI’s Grok chatbot.
Training AI models like Grok 2 from xAI requires tens of thousands of high-performance chips, which are currently in high demand. Earlier this year, Musk disclosed that training the Grok 2 model involved about 20,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs, with future iterations like Grok 3 expected to require even more, potentially up to 100,000 Nvidia H100 chips.
