Spain coach remains confident in his team’s readiness for the Euro 2024 semi-final against France

MUNICH:
Spain’s coach Luis de la Fuente remains steadfast in his team’s abilities ahead of their Euro 2024 semi-final clash against France and their standout player Kylian Mbappe.

Spain has been in formidable form with five consecutive wins, showcasing their prowess with 11 goals scored en route to the semi-finals.

France, on the other hand, has progressed despite criticism of their attacking play, having scored three goals so far – one from a penalty and two own goals.

De la Fuente acknowledged the threat posed by Mbappe, highlighting his unpredictability and game-changing abilities.

“These types of players are unpredictable. You can never predict where they will show up, and they never completely disappear,” de la Fuente said of Mbappe.

“Even if Mbappe’s performance might not be at his usual peak, 50 percent of Mbappe could be 100 percent for any other player. He’s a genius, a world-class player, and France has many such talents.”

While recognizing Mbappe’s exceptional skills, de la Fuente expressed full confidence in his own team.

“Mbappe is unique and exceptional, but I firmly believe in my players,” the coach asserted. “Knowing their capabilities, we will aim to neutralize their strengths. I have complete faith that we are prepared to win tomorrow.”

Spain midfielder Rodri echoed his coach’s sentiments, dismissing external criticism of Mbappe and emphasizing the need for caution.

“I don’t pay attention to what people say. I know the kind of player Mbappe is. He can harm any team at any moment, and we must be alert to his actions,” Rodri stated.

Regarding France’s style of play, Rodri rejected claims of their perceived dullness, focusing instead on their effectiveness.

“Some may find them unexciting, but I don’t see football in those terms,” Rodri commented. “They’ve reached the semi-finals, which speaks for itself. Our focus is on winning and playing our own style of football, without dwelling too much on theirs.”
