The committee responsible for sighting the Muharram moon will meet today
The central moon sighting committee will meet on July 6 in Quetta to look for the crescent moon marking the start of the new Islamic calendar.
Chairing the meeting will be Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
Zonal committees in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar will also convene on the same day to sight the Muharram moon.
However, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has stated that it is unlikely the Muharram moon will be visible today.
According to a statement from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued on June 20, the new moon of Muharram will appear at 03:57 PST on July 6, marking the crossing conjunction point.
Based on these astronomical details, there is no possibility of seeing the new moon on the evening of July 6, which corresponds to the 29th of Zilhij 1445 AH.
Additionally, PMD predicts partly cloudy to cloudy weather in most areas of the country, which could further affect visibility of the moon.
