China has announced it is investigating the European Union’s investigations into foreign subsidies
China announced on Wednesday that it will investigate how the European Union conducted its anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese companies.
The Ministry of Commerce stated on its website that it will look into the practices the EU used during its investigation of Chinese enterprises. This decision came after a complaint from the national chamber of commerce that deals with machinery and electronics imports and exports.
The complaint focused on products like railway locomotives, solar panels, wind power equipment, and security inspection devices, according to the ministry.
The investigation is expected to continue until January 10, 2025, with a possible extension of three months under special circumstances.
In recent months, tensions between China and the EU have escalated. Brussels has criticized Beijing’s support for its electric vehicle and renewable energy sectors. Last week, the EU imposed additional provisional tariffs of up to 38 percent on Chinese electric vehicle imports, despite objections from manufacturers and Chinese business groups.
China has warned that these actions could lead to a trade war and has threatened to take necessary measures to protect its companies’ legal rights and interests.
