Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao secure gold for China, holding off South Korea’s late comeback
China Claims First Gold Medal of Paris 2024 Olympics China’s Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao clinched the first gold medal of the Paris 2024 Olympics on Saturday, triumphing in the 10-meter air rifle mixed team event.
South Korea’s Keum Ji-hyeon and Park Ha-jun secured the silver medal, while Kazakhstan’s Alexandra Le and Islam Satpayev took home the bronze.
Continuing China’s success from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where Yang Qian and Yang Haoran won gold, Huang and Sheng ensured China retained its top position in this event.
The pair, reigning world champions, led the qualifying rounds at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre, finishing ahead of their South Korean competitors.
In the final, despite establishing an early lead of 14-8 after the first 11 shots, Huang and Sheng faced a strong challenge from Keum and Park. The South Korean duo mounted a late comeback, narrowing the gap to 14-12, but the Chinese shooters held their ground to win 16-12.
Kazakhstan’s Le and Satpayev earned their country’s first medal of the Paris Games by decisively beating Germany’s Anna Janssen and Maximilian Ulbrich with a score of 17-5.
