Pakistan Recovers Over Rs114 Billion in Nationwide Power Theft Crackdown
The government and military of Pakistan have successfully recovered more than ₹114 billion through a nationwide effort to stop electricity theft. This campaign began on September 6 last year and has resulted in the arrest of over 84,500 people involved in stealing power.
In just September, authorities collected more than Rs1 billion from offenders in major cities, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, and Islamabad.
This crackdown is part of a larger effort to tackle the power sector’s huge annual loss of ₹589 billion, which is caused by theft and unpaid electricity bills. The initiative follows widespread public anger over high electricity prices throughout the country.
