Govt to Fast-Track Transfer of PWD Projects to Provinces
On Tuesday, the federal government decided to speed up the PWD Projects. This decision follows the recent closure of the Public Works Department (PWD).
The decision was made during a meeting led by Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal. The meeting was attended by the Secretary of Planning and senior officials from the provinces. They agreed to quickly transfer projects funded by the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) to the provincial governments.
The minister explained that only the projects would be transferred; the funding under PSDP will continue as before. He also asked the provinces to provide the names of the ministries that will oversee the projects being transferred within a week.
Projects currently managed by the PWD in Islamabad will be transferred to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and relevant ministries. The minister made it clear that the projects are not ending but are being reassigned to different institutions.
Balochistan has already completed the necessary steps for this transfer, and other provinces must also submit the required details within a week.
The minister emphasized that the goal is to resolve any legal issues and ensure that projects are completed on time. To help with this, Deputy Commissioners at the district level will act as key contacts. They will work with the PWD and other agencies to finalize contracts quickly and get no-objection certificates from contractors.
“This decision is expected to ensure that development projects are completed on time, which will benefit the people,” the minister said.
