Samsung is reportedly seeking to acquire Nokia’s Despite facing challenges from major competitors like Ericsson and Huawei in recent years, Nokia remains a significant player in the network infrastructure sector. Samsung, which currently holds a modest 6.1% market share in its Radio Access Network (RAN) division, is reportedly interested in acquiring Nokia’s network infrastructure business to bolster its position.
Rumors suggest that Samsung is considering a $10 billion bid for Nokia’s infrastructure unit. If successful, this acquisition would catapult Samsung to the position of the world’s second-largest RAN supplier, increasing its market share to 25.6%.
Samsung is already active in the infrastructure market, producing 4G and 5G base stations, chipsets, devices, radios, and core equipment. The company serves carriers globally, including Telus in Canada, O2 in Germany, Reliance Jio in India, KDDI and NTT DoCoMo in Japan, Dish and Verizon in the US, and Vodafone in the UK.
