Samoa Batter Sets International Record with 39 Runs in One Over Record-Breaking Over: Samoa Batter Darius Visser Scores 39 Runs in a Single Over
At the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional East Asia-Pacific Qualifier A on Tuesday, Darius Visser set a new international record by scoring 39 runs in a single over.
Visser achieved this milestone at Garden Oval No.2 in Apia, Samoa, during a match against Vanuatu. Facing Vanuatu seamer Nalin Nipiko, Visser hit six consecutive sixes and capitalized on three no-balls, resulting in the most runs ever conceded in a men’s T20I over.
This remarkable feat surpasses the previous record of 36 runs set by Yuvraj Singh at the inaugural ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007, as well as recent performances by Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Rohit Sharma/Rinku Singh.
During the 15th over, Visser cleared the boundary on the first three deliveries and then hit a six off the fourth legal delivery, helping Samoa reach a century. Despite a dot ball on the fifth delivery, Visser continued his onslaught, hitting another six off the third no-ball and finishing with a final six, setting a new record.
In addition to this over, Visser struck a total of 14 sixes in his innings—just four shy of the record for the most sixes in a men’s T20I match. His individual score of 132 from 62 balls led Samoa to their second victory in the event, bolstering their chances of qualifying for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Visser’s century also marked him as the first player from Samoa to achieve this milestone in international cricket.
