American Airlines Suspends Tel Aviv Flights Until April 2025 Amid Middle East Tensions
American Airlines Suspends Tel Aviv Flights Until April 2025 American Airlines has announced a suspension of all flights to and from Israel until April 2025, a move reported by Israeli media. This decision comes in response to the escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly due to ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip, which have led to over 40,000 deaths and 92,000 injuries since October 7 of the previous year.
According to Israel’s public broadcaster, KAN, the airline has not provided specific reasons for the extended halt in flights to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport. American Airlines joins a number of major carriers, including United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, in halting services to Israel. As of August 7, a total of 20 foreign airlines had suspended operations to and from the country.
The suspension is partly due to heightened security concerns, including fears of retaliatory attacks from Iran following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31. While Iran and Hamas have blamed Israel for the assassination, Israeli authorities have not confirmed or denied involvement. Additionally, Hezbollah has promised retaliation following the killing of its senior commander, Fouad Shukr, in an airstrike in Beirut on July 30.
The American Airlines website currently does not offer a specific date for the resumption of flights to Tel Aviv.
