OpenAI Launches SearchGPT to Compete with Google’s Search Engine Following the success of ChatGPT, OpenAI has unveiled its latest innovation: SearchGPT. This new AI-powered search engine is poised to challenge Google’s dominance in the search market.
SearchGPT, built on the GPT-4 model family, is currently in its prototype phase and available to a limited number of test users—10,000 in total. Unlike its predecessor, ChatGPT, which focuses on conversational AI, SearchGPT is designed specifically for search functionalities.
The interface for SearchGPT resembles ChatGPT’s text-entry prompt, allowing users to input search queries. However, SearchGPT offers more than just conversational responses. It delivers concise information along with sourced links for further exploration. Additionally, users can access visual results, including images, videos, and graphs.
In its development, OpenAI collaborated with several prominent news organizations, including The Wall Street Journal, The Associated Press, and Vox Media, the parent company of The Verge. According to a blog post from OpenAI, these news partners provided critical feedback, and the company continues to incorporate their insights into the development of SearchGPT.
Earlier in September, OpenAI introduced a feature for ChatGPT called “Browse with Bing,” but it was less advanced compared to the capabilities of SearchGPT.
