The National Assembly committee has been told that the process to privatize PIA is nearly finished
The Aviation Committee of the National Assembly was told on Monday that the process to privatize Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (PIAC) is nearly finished.
The statement today also mentioned that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) currently manages 22 out of 43 airports in Pakistan, including 13 international airports. However, it has faced financial limitations for several years, particularly in developing new infrastructure. This has resulted in the use of older second-generation equipment, whereas more advanced third-generation equipment is used in developed countries.
The Committee highlighted the importance of improving the quality of food service and the behavior of CAA staff towards passengers to make air travel better for everyone.
Additionally, the Committee learned that the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) plans to set up five new radars in Quetta, Dera Ismail Khan, Cherat, Gwadar, and Lahore. They also installed 3 mobile radars and 300 automatic weather stations under a project supported by the World Bank to improve weather monitoring and forecasting across the country.
The committee learned that Pakistan Disaster Management (PDM) is creating a mobile app called Kisan Mobile. This app aims to give farmers and government departments early weather forecasts and flood alerts.
The committee also raised worries about cracks in the area where airplanes park at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said they know about the problem and have already started fixing it.
The committee also discussed concerns about hiring aero-medical staff and giving licenses to pilots. They asked the responsible people to give them a detailed report about these matters.
