The Travel Agents Association of Pakistan (TAAP) is against the recent rise in taxes on air tickets
The Travel Agents Association of Pakistan (TAAP) has called the recent tax hike on air tickets illegal. They said the sudden increase has caused a serious crisis in the industry.
At a press conference in their office, former chairman Nadeem Sharif highlighted the potential destruction facing the industry because of these measures.
Muhammad Hanif Ranch, Chairman of APJC, criticized the government’s actions over the last five days. He said the increases go against current laws and are unfairly damaging to the travel and tourism sector.
Officials from the Travel Agents Association of Pakistan (TAAP) expressed serious concerns about how the increased taxes on air tickets are affecting the industry. They pointed out that bookings for economy class tickets to foreign destinations have risen by 150%, and prices for first-class tickets have gone up by 40%. The association cautioned that these changes might cause many travel agencies across the country to default on their financial obligations.
Travel agents nationwide are currently protesting against the government’s decision. They are highlighting the severe financial pressure that the industry is facing. The association is urging the government to take immediate action to prevent further harm and to protect the livelihoods of those who depend on the travel and tourism sector. This situation underscores the significant impact of tax policies on businesses and employment within the travel industry in Pakistan.
