Gas Station Owners Warn They Might Close Down The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has threatened to close petrol stations nationwide on Friday, July 5, if the government does not remove the advance tax from the Finance Bill 2024.
PPDA Chairman Abdul Sami Khan expressed concern about a 0.5 percent advance tax recently imposed on petroleum dealers, arguing that this tax makes it extremely difficult for petrol pump businesses to survive.
He called on the government to reconsider and immediately abolish the advance tax. If the tax remains in place, he warned that the association would shut down operations across the country.
Khan pointed out a significant drop in sales for petroleum dealers and accused the government of indirectly supporting smuggling. He also mentioned that dealers face threats when they voice their concerns. Additionally, he highlighted the heavy tax burden imposed on petroleum dealers with every purchase.
A delegation of petroleum dealers plans to visit Islamabad today to request meetings with the Finance Minister, the Petroleum Minister, and the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue.
