Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has decided to prevent former party members from returning until he is released from prison. Following the violent protests on May 9, 2023, many PTI leaders left the party amid a crackdown on their speeches and attacks on government facilities.
As the February 8 elections approach, there were reports that some deserters wanted to rejoin PTI, but the party leadership has firmly rejected their return. A seven-member committee, led by PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and including Asad Qaiser, Hamid Khan, Shehryar Afridi, Barrister Gohar, and Shibli Faraz, has been formed on the orders of the former prime minister to decide the fate of these leaders. They will compile a list of names for Imran Khan to make the final decision.
Shandana Gulzar will also present reports on cases involving PTI women and reasons given by leaders who left the party.
