Islamabad: The power tariff is expected to increase by Rs 3.41 per unit due to the monthly fuel adjustment (MFA), reported ARY News on Thursday.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is scheduled to review an application from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) requesting a Rs 3.41 per unit hike in electricity rates. CPPA’s application cites a rise in the monthly fuel adjustment for May.
In May, 12.26 billion units of electricity were generated at a cost of Rs 9.12 per unit, according to CPPA.
If approved, this tariff increase would add to the financial burden on consumers already grappling with high electricity costs.
In other news, following the announcement of Budget 2024-25, the federal government has imposed an additional Rs 5.72 per unit increase in power tariffs, impacting citizens already struggling with inflation.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has indicated that the average electricity tariff will rise from the current Rs 29.78 to Rs 35.50 per unit. This increase builds upon a previous rise from Rs 7.91 to Rs 7.50 per unit earlier in the fiscal year.
The increase in electricity tariffs is set to take effect from July 1.
