620,981 Afghan illegal nationals who were in Pakistan have been sent back to Afghanistan
620,981 Afghan illegal nationals who were in Pakistan have been sent back to Afghanistan.
From the 11th to the 21st of this month, a total of 13,815 Afghans returned home, including 5,014 men, 4,087 women, and 4,714 children.
The apex committee of the National Action Plan (NAP), chaired by then-caretaker PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar in a meeting on October 3, 2023, set a deadline for all foreign nationals residing illegally in the country. They were given until October 31 to leave voluntarily or face deportation.
Since the deadline passed, over 500,000 illegal Afghan nationals have returned to Afghanistan through the Torkham and Chaman borders.
Pakistan received criticism from various countries such as the US, UK, Afghanistan, and others. However, Pakistan refuted these statements, clarifying that it is only deporting Afghan nationals who are residing illegally in the country. This measure is aimed at curbing rising incidents of crime.
The Pakistani government is actively assisting the repatriation of illegal Afghan nationals at the Torkham and Chaman borders. This involves facilitating their return to Afghanistan in an organized manner, ensuring compliance with legal and humanitarian considerations.
