Pre-Sales Record Shattered by Deadpool & Wolverine, Setting New Benchmark for R-Rated Films at AMC Theatres
AMC has made a significant announcement regarding the first R-rated film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Deadpool & Wolverine. According to AMC Theaters CEO Adam Aron, the movie’s day-one ticket pre-sales have surpassed those of any other R-rated film in history.
Aron shared this milestone on X/Twitter, stating that approximately 200,000 moviegoers have already secured their seats for the Marvel movie ahead of its release next month. This achievement places Deadpool & Wolverine ahead of other successful R-rated projects such as Joker, Oppenheimer, Deadpool 2, and the original Deadpool.
Although Aron did not disclose the exact monetary value of these pre-sales, The Hollywood Reporter estimates that, based on the 200,000 tickets sold, Deadpool & Wolverine has already garnered around $8 million-$9 million.
Furthermore, Fandango has also reported that the superhero team-up film, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, broke its first-day ticket sales record for 2024. It also boasts the best pre-sale numbers for the Deadpool franchise. Tickets for the upcoming MCU movie became available just two days ago on Monday, May 20.
Jerramy Hainline, EVP of Fandango Ticketing, expressed enthusiasm about Deadpool & Wolverine’s success, referring to it as a “dynamic duo” that is breaking records before even hitting the big screen. Hainline highlighted the strong appeal and excitement that these iconic characters bring to audiences nationwide.
The anticipation for Deadpool & Wolverine’s July premiere is driven by several factors. Ryan Reynolds returns for his third outing as the Merc with a Mouth, marking nearly six years since the second film introduced other beloved X-Men characters in 2018. Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine, despite in-universe teases, has been absent from the series, adding to the excitement of his potential return. With the movie set to integrate both characters into the MCU, Deadpool and Wolverine are poised to fulfill long-awaited promises for fans.
