Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that the provincial government will commence drug tests in educational institutions starting in July.
Previously, the minister had revealed plans for random drug tests in Karachi’s educational institutes.
According to Memon, the tests will be conducted randomly among students, with their identities kept confidential. “If a student tests positive for drugs, their parents will be informed, and the student will be asked to disclose the source of the drugs,” he explained.
However, the government will not pursue legal action against the students who test positive.
The minister also addressed the issue of street crimes in Karachi, noting that the situation has recently improved. Additionally, the police force will soon be armed with modern weapons to better combat criminals.
Memon also mentioned that heatwave camps have been established to support those affected by extreme weather conditions. He further confirmed that several meetings have been held to address the rain emergency across Sindh province, assuring the public that the administration is well-prepared to handle any challenges posed by severe weather.
