Before buying a smartphone, it’s important to check if it’s approved by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to avoid being scammed. PTA has issued some guidelines to help buyers avoid fraud when purchasing new or used phones. Here’s what you need to do:
- Be Cautious with Prices: Don’t buy expensive phones at unusually low prices or without a warranty.
- Buy a New, Sealed Box: Always purchase phones that come in a sealed box.
- Check the PTA Stamp: Make sure the phone’s box has the PTA stamp while you’re at the shop.
- Verify IMEI Numbers: Compare the IMEI number on the phone’s box with the one on the phone itself to make sure they match.
To check if a phone is PTA-approved, you can use one of these methods:
- Website: Go to https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk/ to verify the phone’s status online.
- SMS: Send the phone’s IMEI number in a text message to 8484.
- DVS App: Use the DVS app, available on the Play Store and App Store, to check the phone’s status.
Following these steps will help you avoid buying a phone that isn’t PTA-approved.
